Lots of privacy: in the middle of the Austrian Salzkammergut, your new holiday apartments are directly on the lake at the southern end of the Dead Mountains. The Elfenhaus at the Grundlsee is an idyllic, almost fairytale property, rich in history.
Open all year round, as the Grundlsee treats you with incomparable charm in all seasons. Whether swimming, water sports, hiking, culture and music, or finding comfort by the woodstove, in the private sauna or while skiing during winter.

Nature meets design

Though the surrounding natural scenery attracts all our attention, combining design, art, and sustainability matters to us. The architects from the award-winning BWM Architects redesigned the apartments with great care. A thoughtful approach to nature was essential to us.
You will feel it. Organic materials, natural wood, wool, leather, all in a cosy colour palette and a warm light concept, ensure your well-being.

Art merges with architecture
The Gaiswinkler family is from Aussee, with local roots and at home in the world. That has always been the spirit within the Elfenhaus. Tradition and modernity united. Guests came and went to return every year, with a longing feeling and inspiration of magnificent memories throughout the year.
For decades the artist couple Dahlke lived in the Elfenhaus, the former “Heller-Villa”, the retreat of an Austrian industrial family. Thus, world-famous artist Andre Heller spend his childhood days here. Elfriede Dahlke was an actress and a sculptor who created a unique sculpture park on the property that has been preserved to this day.
The Gaiswinkler family continues the tradition and promotes contemporary art and photography and modern architecture and design. Tradition and modernity, art and architecture merge in the Elfenhaus.
Embedded sustainability
While being in Aussee we recognise that our nature and humans are front and centre here. Thus, it is at our core to take care of both.
Climate and environment matter to us. Therefore we take care of our carbon footprint and sustainability:
Electricity from our in-house photovoltaic system
Hot water prepared by solar cells on our roof
Mountain water from our own spring
Sustainable materials such as regional larch wood
Textiles made from recycled wool
Built and sourced locally and where not else possible in Europe
The regional hospitality focuses on sustainability as well. Freshly caught fish from the large, seasonal products from local farmers, all prepared by people from the community.
We also understand it as our responsibility to support the community and commit to local business. Where needed we help to mutually create a world we want to live in.

Coming home
Find your way home. In the evening after an exciting day, after a cozy dinner or a walk along the lake promenade. The Elfenhaus is bathed in warm light.
Fill up the attractive stove with wood and feel the heat.
Local firewood by local foresters is located directly in front of the door. Open one of the good Austrian red wines of your host and look into the distance across the Lake. Take you time. This is pure pleasure and indulgence.

Celebrating at the Elfenhaus
Anniversaries, birthday celebrations, family gatherings, friend's meetings, baptisms, silver weddings, Christmas with the extended family in the enchanting Ausseerland in the snow. Or just so, without any occassion.
The Elfenhaus can be rented exclusively by booking all four apartments.
Because we are often very well booked for years, it is a good option especially from September to June.
Enjoy the large facility exclusively for your family and friends.
Getting married in the Elfenhaus
In Grundlsee you have the possibility to celebrate your most beautiful day in the life in cooperation with the Elfenhaus.
In the music Pavilion at the lake the civil marriage and in the church overlooking the lake.
A subsequent boat trip and celebration in a traditional restaurant round off the experience.
Or intimate in a small circle directly on the shores of the Grundlsee in the Elfenhaus.
